*g* It's a first for me too. Under normal circumstances, I'm either really late or leaving during the first 12 months, because some other pairing is catching my eye. But then I've never encountered a fandom that came close to the Sam/Dean - Jared/Jensen thing. It's just so rare to find a slash pairing consisting of two (sole) main characters and an accompanying (obvious) rps fandom.
It was a funny thing, this story...I wrote most of Dean's story (Dean's pov) from Jan to May, and then the deadline came, May 1st. Then I was in trouble because I had 63,000 words, and nothing from Sam's pov. I messed around in the month of May, not writing really, and then in June wrote the rest of it,
You wrote 120,000 words since June??? This is... mind boggling. Did you even sleep? *g*
I had to post or else I would my artist! (This was terribly important to me, I love it when people do art to my stories.)
And the art is very beautiful.. Though looking at the story, my guess is that she probably would have waited for you : )
I really had several hard discussions with myself about his motivations on leaving Sam in the state that he did, which is what slowed me down and took up time.
But it worked out very well. I mean it's such a Dean thing to go and punish himself because everything that goes wrong is of course always his fault. And in my opinion, it was the better solution than him staying which would probably have resulted in *Sam* leaving in a bout of shock, realizing what they had done. And since Sam is so much more thick- and hot-headed, who knows if that had not resulted in the end of their relationship/family.
leaving Sam, but leaving such an obvious trail behind him without realizing it.
*g* To me it felt more like he was in denial about wanting Sam to find him ; )
So I think I captured that, but oh yes, so much more could have been written about Dean on the road and at the same slow pace as the rest of the story! I was inside of this story and it was very hard to come out.
It must be hard to let go of such a *big* baby : ) I only ever wrote one long story, but it felt kind of weird to let go after having spend so many hours on it. So yeah, I get that.
and the biggest thing I came away with was the sense of being closed in, with every movement controlled.
That I could relate to. I've never visited a mental institution, but two prisons (not as an inmate *g*). And it felt very creepy to have every door locked behind you and no way to open them again on your own. But beyond that your description of the treatments were very impressive and also how you made a lot of the personnel not really treating them as human beings. I saw the same thing in those prisons. It's as if they have to take a few steps back, dulling everything, because otherwise they would not be able to bear it.
