The Things We Carry With Us - Master Fic Post

Title: The Things We Carry With Us
Author:
lovesrain44
Story Rating: PG
Genre: Slash
Word Count: 47, 654
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Warnings: Angst, emo, h/c, incest, terrible weather, touristy local tidbits, and far too many descriptions about food.
Summary: Sam and Dean are on the road, saving people and hunting things, like they always do. Dean discovers that Sam is attempting to turn himself into a monk, and so he does his best to get Sam laid. Sam resists because, of course, who needs to have sex with a girl when Dean’s around? It's about going on a roadtrip with your brother. It's about the food you eat, and the maps you follow. It's about the things you carry with you. (Takes place some time after Heart.)

The Art:

My artist was [livejournal.com profile] radishface , however, there is no master art post. I put the art in my story to use as illustrations.

Then, I got a wild hair and created my own story banner:

And then I created this one, too, because one is never enough.

it's really not about how far they go, it's how descriptive you are about it. pg should go over it only by mentions, if even that. pg-13 is like brief sexual moments, brief. not what you had at the end there. i think that scene at the end is quite worthy of a R rating. if you crossed over to explicit sexual scenes, then it would be nc-17.

brilliant, thank you :)

i dont read in html because frankly i dont know how to safe it. it is probably quite simple but i havent figured it out. and rtf is a different format when it comes to WORD or something like that. i've had it before that i cannot open it on every computer because the format wont get recognized. the only format i use and dont have any problems with is pdf because it works ever where :)

You read the HTML via your browser so I guess it's as safe as your browser is safe. I made the HTML file myself and I use Firefox. If there was something wrong with the file my browser would have alerted me. I don't insert ads or spam into the single file html websites I make. If that's what you meant by safe.

RTF is the default format Wordpad on Windows operating system reads. The reason it's so popular is because it's an open format that every word processing program can read.

I'm not sure what operating system you're using but if you can't double click an RTF file and it opens automatically in Open Office, Microsoft Word, Atlantis, or Wordpad. I think there is something wrong with your computer. Not sure what comes with Macs thought...I'm now kind of thinking maybe you're using a Mac computer.

For PDFs to open you actually have to have Adobe Reader installed on your computer or Foxit Reader. There is no built in pdf view on every operating system. (at least not that I've heard of)

thanks for explaining. like i said, i am not ruling out technical stupidity on my part. i only ever use pdfs because they are the things that work for sure... thanks again :)

p.s. just re-read

I'm wondering now if when you wrote, "i dont know how to safe it" you meant you don't know how safe it is, or you don't know how to save the file.

To save HTML files that are open in a browser you need to go to the top of the browser where it says File and if you use Firefox select the option Save Page As and it'll open a save box where you select where you'd like to save the story. In Explorer it's similar. I'm not sure how Opera, Safari, or the google browser works though...But it should be in the same location.

Wow, I just got finished reading this, and I have to say that you did a wonderful job on the slow unfolding relationship between the boys. It felt very true and realistsic that they would dance around the bush for so long trying to figure out what to do about it.

Also, it made me squee that you had them come through the Texas Panhandle. I live farther north than the route you had the boys travel, and I've never been to Canadian or Shamrock, but the descriptions you had of both places are very true of most Panhandle towns. It made me giddy in ways I can't explain, because whenever anyone writes the boys coming through Texas they never have them come this way through places I could relate to.

Anyway, suffice to say, I loved the story and look forward to reading more of your SPN fics. :D Thank you for sharing this with us!

I'm am so glad you enjoyed it and yes! The Texas panhandle is it's own kind of country. There was so much variety and not all if it is flat. I kept coming across unexpected little turns in the road and so many different kinds of weather, it was amazing. The boring part (but interesting in its own way) is the backbone of Kansas, up Highway 83, which is a route I took one year, and where I got part of the idea for this story, that Sam spends a LOT of time staring out the window watching the grasses go by.

Thank you for your lovely comment. : D

I like it too! Which surprised me.

I just appreciate the fact that you were willing to go to all that effort! Hope the story is worth it!

love the tone of your story. intense in parts and dreamy in parts. the scene with yoko onna is my favorite :)

the slow unfolding of the relationship was pitch perfect. i love how sam keep inserting on how he gave dean a blow job! in his mind-conversation/monologue *snicker*

thanks for the read!

You are more than welcome. Enjoy!

How nice of you to say! I like the ghost case myself, but the yukki onna was sure fun to research. : D

Thank you for the lovely comment, I'm so glad you enjoyed the story.

Let me say...

I very rarely comment but this was beautiful. I loved the small stuff and the fact that they take pleasure from eating, warm coats and nice boots! I love that it is so quietly understated and the love between them is so sweet and true. I love that the sex is so understated yet so hot. The fact that Sam's body is wanting it but his mind is - so Sam - trying to fight against it. I have no real words to say how good this fic is and I hope to read some of your other stuff.

This is worthy of publication you know!!

Annie

You are so very kind to say so, esp since you don't comment. That's a big compliment right there. And that it's worthy of publication? Some day, some day....

I'm glad you liked all the little details; I enjoyed putting them in!
