The Things We Carry With Us - Master Fic Post

Title: The Things We Carry With Us
Author:
lovesrain44
Story Rating: PG
Genre: Slash
Word Count: 47, 654
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Warnings: Angst, emo, h/c, incest, terrible weather, touristy local tidbits, and far too many descriptions about food.
Summary: Sam and Dean are on the road, saving people and hunting things, like they always do. Dean discovers that Sam is attempting to turn himself into a monk, and so he does his best to get Sam laid. Sam resists because, of course, who needs to have sex with a girl when Dean’s around? It's about going on a roadtrip with your brother. It's about the food you eat, and the maps you follow. It's about the things you carry with you. (Takes place some time after Heart.)

The Art:

My artist was [livejournal.com profile] radishface , however, there is no master art post. I put the art in my story to use as illustrations.

Then, I got a wild hair and created my own story banner:

And then I created this one, too, because one is never enough.

Ebook Downloads:

My dear amothea took the time on her vacation to make different ebook versions of the story, and she was sweet enough to include the pics I wanted! You can download the story in a single file version in any of the following formats:

LRF Version
Mobi Version
RTF Version
HTML Version
Epub Version
PDF Version

Author's Notes:  This story is dedicated to my [livejournal.com profile] amothea , who is always there and knows where the best fanfic is to be found. It's also dedicated to all those mom-n-pop diners and motels across the country.

i skimmed through the ending (because i always read the ending first, don't ask why lol) and i gotta say, this is so not pg? i'm sure i'll like it otherwise (i'm one of those turned off by the lower ratings actually) but having a wrong story rating is not good D: i'll comment again at the end, when i've actually properly read it but i just felt the need to point this out.

Is there any chance to get a .pdf file? I`d be great.

I'm very excited to see you posting your story for the big bang this year. Haven't had a chance to read through it yet, but I've made a PDF file for myself. I see you have various versions available for download (very cool) except PDF, here's the download link in case you need it.

Even though I haven't read the fic yet, I'm already so very very impressed by the artwork/pictures scattered throughout the text. I can't wait to read the whole thing. I have a feeling that once I start, I can't put it down. =p

Yay! I'm so glad to see your story posted. :) I loved the new cover art you made! It's like you left one last surprise for me to find. :)

The problem with this PDF is that it's missing author and title metadata...I don't suppose you could update the fields? Um, I'm now thinking I should have made a PDF too along with the other formats. :) It's just I normally use my work computer to create PDFs because I have Adobe Acrobat Professional there where as at home it's more complex since I don't have the program.

I'm a bit curious as to why HTML and RTF won't work on your computer? I've never heard this before. Normally PDFs are the format that give people trouble when viewing.

The amazing Amothea has created a pdf version, which I've now included. Let us know if you have any problems with it, okay?

Thanks to the amazing amothea, the pdf file has been uploaded. Enjoy!

Thank you, sweet pea! And than you for all the ebook versions, it sounds like there are many readers appreciate your efforts. As do I. : D

And yeah, the cover art seemed to be more evocative than the b/w one, which I still like, but this one seemed to fit.

Yeah, let me know what you think. I put it as pg because of the level and type of sex that they have.

Question for you, and I've hidden it to avoid spoilers, so highlight here to see my question about kinds of sex that are had in this story => There isn't any penetration, which in my mind, would take the story up to an R rating. Does that make sense? Or is there some other guidelines out there that I'm not aware of?.

*scratch head* I'm guessing you are talking about something beyond my technical understanding here. I don't have Adobe Acrobat Professional. The PDF is generated from Microsoft Word. I used the fic's banner image author provided as the cover page. The image itself contains the title and author info. The second page of the document also has the fic title and author listed as well as fic summary, disclaimer, etc., plus the TOC that shows the chapter pages as well as the original link which points back to the author's master post here.

But you are talking about something else here in regard to the metadata, aren't you? I truly have no idea how to add the missing fields, or else I'd be happy to make the necessary correction. If you can take the time to teach me, that will be great, and I'll make the update. If not, here's the DL for the original docx file I used to create the PDF. Sorry I can't be more assistance at this instant. *facepalm*

You are so very welcome. But as [livejournal.com profile] amothea pointed out above, I may have messed up in creating the PDF. I didn't mean to leave out any necessary information. I just didn't know how to add the metadata fields she kindly pointed out that was missing. In any case, I used the first story banner you provided here as the cover page, I thought that was enough because it contained the title and author info.

In Adobe Acrobat Professional you have to go to File - Document Properties - and in the Title/Author fields add the title and author. Otherwise I think it fills the file name into the title and there is no author listed or in this PDF example 2010. What happens is that if anyone were to load this to a Kindle for example they'd get 2010 as the author and Lovesrain44 as the title. It makes it a bit difficult to navigate at that point.

I had to find this out myself when I first started loading docs to portable devices so I'm more cautious about this. :)

I hope this explanation helped. And it's all cool. I had time to make a PDF tonight. Earlier this week I ran out of time and hadn't realized many people would prefer PDF otherwise I would have made one the next day.

Truly, the version you made was fine and looked wonderful. Only people uploading it to portable devices would have noticed the missing metadata. I'm not sure anyone will upload PDFs to portable devices considering that there is a mobipocket and epub version available.
