Really? Still? COOL! And rant away, I’m sure you’re not alone in that!

As for the scissors, I’m not sure what Sam thought John was going to do. I think it was a knee jerk reaction, and some vague thought in his head that there was more pain coming. He wasn’t thinking clearly, and it certainly did give John pause, so maybe it was worth it.

Dean stepping up to protect Sam seems to be a big issue, at least it keeps coming up. Dean would, does, has, and will step up for Sam IF he feels that Sam is in danger, jeopardy, getting picked on, not able to handle it, in over his head – all kinds of reasons.

But here, I’m thinking, Dean thinks Sam’s got it coming. Remember “Bugs?” Where Dean says that comment he does about how Sam was getting out of line so Dad had to be mean? If it were some bully picking on Sam, Dean would be right there. But here, it’s Dad, laying down the law, and in Dean’s mind, Sam is just causing trouble. Besides which, who wouldn’t want a wonderful summer filled with guns and running and training and the prospect of being a real hunter one day? Dean thinks that Sam’s out of his mind to not want that, or maybe he doesn’t even realize that Sam doesn’t want it, maybe he thinks Sam is just being a brat. Who knows what lurks in the mind of a 16 year old?

Sam and Dean are close, but brothers don’t always connect all the time, they sometimes fight, they don’t always get along. Sam feels closer to Dean than Dad, that much is obvious, but here, in this summer, that closeness comes and goes, on account of Dean’s all distracted, so Sam often feels like the odd man out. I love how you point out that he directs the anger to Dad anyhow. And I love discussions like these, so thank you!
