Awwwww! You moved me almost to tears in parts of this, particularly the end. (That's a good thing.) What I love best is that you really do capture what it feels like to be thirteen. When you talked about Sam TRYING to keep his tone under control and yet it still coming out the way that he knew would irritate Dad, man that brought back memories. The trapped, helpless feeling really comes across so well here. It's amazing writing.
But now you owe me a switch whipping. You can't tease a girl with something like that. I know you want to write more, so I'm really hopping that makes it's way into one of the stories.
