The depth of character development in this story is just amazing. I really liked the structure, too -- seeing the brothers interact over the course of several cases made everything about their relationship seem very real. The idea that they are so tied up in each other yet have such a complicated, largely unspoken set of issues and topics that are not to be addressed (at least in words) is fascinating to me.
