Speculation from Kristen at EOnline, and my reaction below the cut...

The article had this to say...

"The big news Kristin has today is that in this episode, “a character we know and love dies.” While she doesn't reveal who the mystery death is, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out because, as any Supernatural fan knows, there aren't a whole lot of characters we “know and love.” It definitely takes Ruby out of the running."

and this...

"If it's a real death, the odds have to be against Uncle Bobby. It's hard to find a more beloved character who could actually be killed off without dramatically harming the show. Part of me would love to see Bobby die only because, from a storytelling perspective, it would be very emotional and propel Dean and Sam into some newer, darker places. On the other hand, it might be too hard to let go of such a great character who can pop in all the time."

Oh, man. I have grown so sick of Bobby and the boys' dependence upon him, especially since the big reunion scene between Sam and Dean was RUINED by an overdose of Bobby, so I'm really hoping this is true. The article goes on to say that maybe the Impala will be the one to get the axe but I certainly hope not. Although now that Bobby's up for the chop, I'm feeling kind of bad about not liking him so much. He was fine in small doses, so the overkill of using him, esp since The Dad died, was annoying. But honestly. If Bobby dies? Dean will cry. It will be beautiful. Sam won't cry, and that will be beautiful too. (I've never thought Sam and Bobby were all that close.)

Fingers crossed that my wish comes true. Does that make me a horrible fan?

I think Ruby is DEAD!
But I also think that Bobby WILL die in later eps. And I'm not sure about how I feel about that. As you know, I'm pissed off about his almost omnipotence, but seriously? I like him as a character. He is so bearlike and I love his Ursula Andrews pin-up! :DD

Totally with you on that one. Lots of love for Bobby, lots of not love for the misuse of his character. The chick who played Ruby had 6 eps in her contract. She's done that. Will they replace Ruby with someone new? That'll sure throw Sammy for a loop, eh. But yeah, Bobby will be the NEXT to go, yeah! *feels cruel*

They should take that maid with the towels. I loved her. hehehehe.
Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 10:11 pm (UTC)
God YES! She would be a hoot and a half!
Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 10:25 pm (UTC)
Seriously. I would LOVE if Show would give as a not so hot, perfect looking girl.
I mean, WTF? The fandom is packed with girls and women. So why the hot chicks? Why not taking someone older, fatter, like Roseanne in the first seasons? The boys could get a kick ass mom. Because Roseanne? Please. Lilith would piss herself.

I agree. It's one of the reasons why I miss Ellen. I thought she was a great character, stronger, older, not taking any sass from the boys. We need more like her. Less like Little Miss Can't Move Her Face.
Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 10:54 pm (UTC)
Just today I thought about her... what happened to her?
Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 10:56 pm (UTC)
Nothing. The Roadhouse burned down, she was with the gang when the door to hell opened and all those demons got out, and, poof. Nothing. I always figured she opened up another saloon somewhere.

As for the actress, what I heard was that there was some sort of contract dispute and the actress told Show to buzz off. Just heresay, I'm not sure what the whole story was.

Sad thing. :(
I miss a mother... the father figures are getting old.
Friday, December 19th, 2008 05:39 pm (UTC)
There actually seem to be a lot of mother/female figures in the boys' life, Ellen, Mary, and all those girlfriends. Very few father figures, The Dad, Bobby, Caleb, Pastor Jim, Ash. All dead but Bobby. And he's next!
*rubs hands together wickedly*

Totally disagree :) There was nothing ruined with or w/o Bobby - it was a plan of developing characters and it still goes strong. I miss Bobby and no way he can be killed off the show - there's Pam as best candidate for death. I'd hope for Ruby of course but Kripke loves to annoy us with her :(

No worries. : D
I always thought Bobby was a great character, my irritation is mostly from his misuse, either over done or underdone. I know LOTS of people love Bobby, and regardless of my lack of affection for him, he is the most well loved character on the show aside from the boys, so his character was the first one I thought of. His death would be THE most traumatic thing, like, ever. Right up there with when The Dad died.

I know what you mean - some writing problems was there for this season but that certain event with hug was never Bobby's fault. I think it was planned as less sensitive than Dean-Bobby hug cos it was needed this way. Look at Sam's behaviour later and you'll see strong logic there.

I can see what you're saying, I do. That Bobby and Dean had all that time together and Sam and Dean aren't seeing eye to eye, that's fine. I can see the logic. And it's not that I'm just trying to see Sam and Dean together, if they're at odds, they're at odds. What I don't like, and you totally don't have to agree, is the huge overload of Bobby at the boys' expense, so much Bobby, at least early on, on screen, and the boys not alone, and me wishing I'd seen more of the argument where Dean punched Sam, not once, but twice. What Sam did while Dean was away was huge, and I think Show will take us there eventually. But I think the writers (I blame them, not Bobby) totally didn't understand the characters they were working with, plus I think that Mr. Singer had some other work to do, another show, and so the script made sure to include him for the contracted number of eps, without really considering how that would affect the storyline. I think that's my biggest beef, and I hope I explained it right - to rush Mr. Singer on his way through his contract, they stomped all over everything else. That's what I see, I could totally be wrong here. :D

I know what you're talking about. But i blame writers for that - though for me it wasn't Bobby's overload but just some 'strange' parts with him. What i feel was overload is Ruby's present that kill 409 for me, like totally. I mean i was hoping to see more of Sam stiry but all i saw was SRuby story. I'm not interesting in Ruby at all, i'd prefer Sam w/o her to watch. I'd prefer see more of his struggling w/o Dean but on his own, i'd prefer his scene at Dean's grave but not that ugly sex scene (imho). What i'm saying is if there was less Ruby and the same amount of Bobby and they left Ruby's time totally to Sam it'd be better on my opinion and it wasn't overload in Bobby's part cos it would be more balanced that way.
I know they need to concider Jim's new work to plan Bobby's eps and it can be a part of the case but i doubt it's the only reason.
But i agree with you - more scene with boys and less with well, 'other's would be good :)

Oh, sure. I heard that the actress who played Ruby was only signed up for 6 eps in 2008, so she's done that, and if she's gone and another actress plays her, we'll BOTH be happy. (She might have a new contract in 2009, who knows.) I still don't think they've dealt with Ruby right either, just like Bobby, she's been used too much and inappropriately. I liked the sex scene personally, but that was because SAM had his shirt off, and I could see that, unlike Dean, he likes it a little rough, and man, that pushed a lot of buttons for me. Still they could have done any number of other things to show Sam's descent into darkness.

Believe it or not, I liked Bobby when they introduced him, a gruff hunter from The Dad's past, someone they could count on. But, with how they pushed him into the show, he became a caricature of himself, and that dissapointed me too. Guess I'm not able to take him at face value, because I tend to want to see how great he could have been.

Oh, yes! But i heard no rumors about new Ruby so i think i'll be suffering with Ruby 2.0 for the end of the season (God, help me).

I still don't think they've dealt with Ruby right either, just like Bobby, she's been used too much and inappropriately
I think the main not right thing is that they still don't accent if she's just good little demon with golden heart (ew) or someone sly and smart who use both boys for her personal interests. I prefer the second Ruby and if she'll be that way i'll be first to announce my love for her :) But while they keep us in the dark we bitch about every step we think is wrong cos we can't see the real reasons for those steps, you know.

I liked the sex scene personally, but that was because SAM had his shirt off, and I could see thatI totally understand but since Jared soes nothing to me on sexual level i can't appreciate it :) So i'd prefer some angst scene with him.

unlike Dean, he likes it a little rough, and man, that pushed a lot of buttons for me
There was a observation of boys' style in sex (sorry, no link) and it's actually total IC for both of them, to sum it up they say:
Sam has sex. Dean makes love.

Still they could have done any number of other things to show Sam's descent into darkness.
Exactly. I've heard many Sam girls complains of lack of Sam's focus this season but i think it's not the point. The point is they split Sam's time with Ruby and the accent is displaced from Sam to SRuby hence people don't see Sam but SRuby and it's not the same.

But, with how they pushed him into the show, he became a caricature of himself, and that dissapointed me too.
Well, i don't see them pushing him too much. Maybe you see it cos he was often in the beginning of the season? Cos now they even were in his house and he wasn't there! It's almost blasphemy :) Anyway i like how they usually add him with his knoledge and research skills cos boys can do it for themselves but they usually on the rush and don't have time for proper research.
I think that maybe your annoyance of Bobby came from the same place as mine of Ruby? Tjis season they totally pushed us to take a side and it's bothering fans, they got nervous and look for someone to take the blame. For me it's Ruby, for you it's Bobby :)

Sorry, I LOVE Bobby and Kripke had better not kill him.. I'm thinking it's Pamela. Folks like her and she's got nothing but postive feedback..
Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 10:08 pm (UTC)
Oh, now that's a character I'd not thought of right away. Sure. She was a great charcter. I don't know about well loved, not like Bobby is, but she sure has been a big hit. But killing her off would have less effect on the boys than Ash's death did, which, as I recall, was a blip on their radar. They didn't grieve overly much, right?
Thursday, December 18th, 2008 10:37 pm (UTC)
I had another thought, what if it's Ellen. Seeing as she hasn't been on much.
Friday, December 19th, 2008 05:37 pm (UTC)
Good one! She is well loved, but alas, not seen since Season 2, so I'm thinking Show means to use a more current well loved character. Besides, what would be the impact if Ellen died? I'm thinking that's what Show wants to do, a high impact death that will further come between the boys and make them cry.
