Title: Piece of Sky
Author: Lovesrain44
Genre/Rating: Slash/R
Pairing: Willie/Barnabas
Word Count: 17,626
Fandom: Dark Shadows
Verse: Splinter Verse (#3)
Summary: Barnabas has sent Willie to pick up a present for Miss Winters. Willie ruins everything, and must be punished. However, in doing so, Barnabas comes up against his servant’s odd proclivities to endure more than he must to get what he needs.
A/N: This story is the same as The Price, but is written from Barn’s POV. The problem with writing from the bad guy’s point of view is that you often get more insight into what makes him tick than is good for you. I found that while writing this story I was “channeling” Barn. I got AWFULLY bossy and picky, but I just wanted things the way I wanted them, and what’s wrong with that?

The rain woke him, startling him from a tangled bay of memories, drawing him up with the cool scent of the sea carried inland as a heavy pall sifted through the house around him. He could almost feel the weight of the darkness as he got up and made his way to the library, easing the wrinkles from his clothes as he went, and taste the dampness in his throat. And hear the silence beyond the faint, faraway humming in his head.

Title: The Price
Author: Lovesrain44
Genre/Rating: Slash/R
Pairing: Willie/Barnabas
Word Count: 16,193
Fandom: Dark Shadows
Verse: Splinter Verse (#2)
Summary: Willie's come back from fetching something Barnabas wants to give to Victoria Winters. Alas, not only does the present get dropped (Barnabas blames Willie, of course), but Willie says too much about the cost of the gift and Victoria, being a lady, must turn it down. Barnabas is furious, and Willie contrite and stubborn at the same time. More slashiness enues.
A/N: Oh, how I love to hurt this boy!

Willie tapped the accelerator again, turning off the windshield wipers almost absently as he listened to the tires churn in the mud. Water came down in a solid curtain over the windshield, seeping in, as it always did, in the upper right hand corner of the glass where the sealant had eroded away. The engine whined, and he could feel the shudder the entire truck made as the almost-new tires briskly dug themselves another inch deeper. He was halfway up the hill to the Old House and there was no help for it. Yes, he could safely carry the package he had picked up for Barnabas into the house, but the truck would still be there come morning. It was doubtful that Barnabas would enjoy paying for a tow truck, but there it was. If he wanted the vehicle released from the quagmire that had evolved during the early spring thaw, he was going to have to sign the check.

Genre/Rating: Gen/R
Verse: Fleet Verse
Fandom: Dark Shadows
Word Count: 20,927
Warnings: Non con.
Summary: The conversation Willie has with Buzz in Inches and Miles leads Willie to remember his travels with Jason as he compares the freedom he once had with the eternal prison that is now his in the Old House.
A/N: I once thought, back in the day, that Jason was quite cruel to Willie. Then, when I really started watching and studying these characters, I realized that they were quite close friends. Not slash close, but close. And I have often wondered where these two “sea tramps” travelled to. The poem below inspired the title:

Fire in the night, O dreams!
Though she send you as she sent you, long ago,
South to the desert, east to ocean, north to snow,
West of these out to seas colder than the Hebrides I must go
Where the fleet of stars is anchored, and the young star-captains glow

Inches and Miles

Title: Inches and Miles
Author: Lovesrain44
Genre/Rating: Gen/PG-17
Verse: Fleet Verse
Word Count: 7,801
Summary: Buzz, the cool beatnik and one-time boyfriend of Carolyn Stoddard on Dark Shadows, was not fazed by the big money of the Collins clan. In this story he is about to embark upon a journey to the west coast. As he prepares, he meets up with Willie, and invites him for a ride on his bike and a drink on the beach.
A/N: There is no canon evidence that Buzz and Willie ever met, but if they did, what would they have to say to each other?  I always imagined that they would talk about seing the world and about what it means to be free. This story is Part 1 of the Fleet verse, and the sequel is called Fleet of Stars.

I've been working like the YED on my big bang fic, terrified that it will suck and worried that it won't get done in time. Revisions are HARD. I've had to work LATE and eat at my DESK!! Remind me never to do this again! (It'll soon be over and I'm grateful to have some VERY fine art to go with my story. I got VERY lucky with that, I'd say.)

So, in order to avoid working on the big bang, I decided to post some old stories of mine, back from my zine days, when I wrote, ate, and slept Dark Shadows. I'll be posting the State of Grace Verse first, since it's the most, um, erotic of the lot. And it's a lot of fun, too, because Barn and Willie do it standing up.

I'll be posting more as the fever hits me. You can read the first one here. It's called "Splinter."

Title: Splinter
Author: Lovesrain44
Rating: R, Slash
Pairing: Willie/Barnabas
Word Count: 10,205
Summary: Willie's tasked with unpacking antique books that his vampire master, Barnabas Collins, ordered. Alas, in his hurry, he screws up and drops an entire crate of very valuable books. Barnabas determines that he will take the cost of the books out of Willie's hide, and then slashiness ensues.
A/N: Dark Shadows gives lots of hints as to the relationship between Barnabas Collins and Willie Loomis; at the very least, it is a co-dependant one. This story pushes that idea to the slashy end of the spectrum. This was also the story that started off a series I never thought I would be able to write because I never felt there was a logical way to slash this pair. But, by golly, I found a way!

***

Moving boxes was easy, at least mentally.

Yeah, they were heavy, but Willie took that in stride, enjoying the change of pace the simple task gave him. It had taken two men an hour and a half and then some to unload the wooden crates on the side porch, but it would take Willie the rest of the day to shift the entire lot into the library.
