Yes, I'm doing this instead of chores, but wouldn't you? The AO3 is so easy to work with, it makes me wish I'd written more.  At any rate, here's more of what's been posted to the AO3:

The Auction Verse - Originally the first story, The Blind Auction Diversion, was written in response to a prompt about putting Willie in a difficult situation with a bid for an auction that goes horribly, horribly wrong. Well it does, as it always does, but I had such fun with the characters that I introduced here that there are three more stories in this verse, in order: In Exile, Two Roads Divided, and Beyond Forgiveness.

The Splinter Verse - Willie's tasked with unpacking antique books that his vampire master, Barnabas Collins, ordered. Alas, in his hurry, he screws up and drops an entire crate of very valuable books. Barnabas determines that he will take the cost of the books out of Willie's hide, and then slashiness ensues.  There are four more stories in this verse, in order: The Price, Piece of Sky, State of Grace, and Faith in the Atmosphere.

Fleet of Stars Verse - Buzz, the cool beatnik and one-time boyfriend of Carolyn Stoddard on Dark Shadows, is not fazed by the big money of the Collins clan. In this story he is about to embark upon a journey to the west coast. As he prepares, he meets up with Willie, and invites him for a ride on his bike and a drink on the beach.

Breath of Heaven is now posted on AO3.

Dark Shadows is not a fandom where you can find a lot of stories online; as far as I can tell, anyway. Most of the stories are in zines, and most of the stories are about Barnabas and Josette and the rest of the upper crust of Collinsport. Not many are interested in Willie's story, or what's going on with him, or how hard he works while the rest of the gang drinks brandy in the Front Room. Which is a shame, because the dynamics between Willie and Barnabas, or between Willie and Jason McGuire, or, heck, between Willie and any character is far more exciting to watch because Willie has a Big Secret that he has to keep on Pain of Death. Sure, everyone has secrets in Collinsport, but Willie's Big Secret is BIG. And the changes in his character from the time he arrived as a thief to the time he works for Barnabas Collins up at the Old House are riveting. At least to me. Which is probably why I wrote so many stories about him.

The Willie and Barnabas Diversion is now posted on AO3.

This is one of the few stories I wrote that takes place after Willie gets out of the loony bin. I thought his character wasn't as interesting in this weakened state, yet, one very hot August week, this story came to me. Go figure. This is also the only one of my Dark Shadows stories in which Julia Hoffman appears.

The Nicholas Diversion is now posted on AO3.

God, I love the AO3. Posting is a breeze. Corrections are a breeze. I think each post in the archive can accept up to 50,000 words, which is five times more than live journal can take. The whole thing is set up for exactly what it needs to be, a place to post and share stories. Then there's that swank epub download for ereaders, what an easy thing to do!

Normally I go to Fan Fiction on the Run for my ebooks, but if [personal profile] amalthia hasn't been creating enough SGA ebooks for me like she ought to as my BFF, then I can go to the AO3 and find some for myself. (Which amalthia would only encourage, as she doesn't want to "enable" me in these sorts of things. She's all about growth and self-sufficiency, damnit.)

The Earring Diversion is now on AO3.

This was an early story in my Dark Shadows writing era; I think it fumbles for the dramatic, but even if it doesn't get there, at least it reaches.

Ordinary Day is now posted on AO3.

Before I wrote fic for Supernatural, I wrote Dark Shadows fic, namely stories about Willie Loomis, who I adored writing about because he's such a mess and can't seem to stay out of trouble.

Title: Ordinary Day
Author: lovesrain44
Genre/Rating: Gen/G
Word Count: 18,664
Summary: Willie goes about his chores and wonders if this is as good as it gets. And then bad things happen.
A/N: This is a stream of consciousness story, and up to that point that I wrote it, no one had written a first person Willie POV story, so I took it upon myself. This story is a one-off story that takes place in no particular verse, and, as most of my stories do, the events occur before Willie entered the looney bin.

When you find yourself in the midst of what you do and who you are, do you ever think that the most common of events could bring you joy?  You would if you worked at the Old House, where even a sunset, or a cool breeze, or the pleasure of a simple chore reminds you that there is a life beyond the reach of your master.

Title: The Willie and Barnabas Diversion
Author: lovesrain44
Genre/Rating: Gen/PG
Word Count: 5,539
Fandom: Dark Shadows
Summary: Willie can’t remember why he used to be afraid of his boss. But, once he sees Barnabas attack Adam, it starts to come to him, and no matter how far Willie runs, the memories are going to catch up to him.
A/N: This is one of the few stories I wrote that takes place after Willie gets out of the loonie bin. I thought his character wasn’t as interesting in this weakened state, yet, one very hot August week, this story came to me. Go figure.

***

Willie raced up the stairs, all out and breathless, his hands grabbing the next riser as soon as his feet found purchase. At any moment, a large, scarred hand was going to reach for him, he just knew it, grab him and pull him down to the floor and finish what it had started. He slipped a bit on the top stair, his leather soled shoes missing their grip on the carpet, and then he looked back, over his shoulder. Adam had Barnabas in a death grip, and though Julia shrieked and tried to pull him off, Willie knew that she would fail. Adam would kill Barnabas, and then he would turn on Julia, and then he would come looking for Willie.

Summary: Willie buys the wrong kind of paint, and has to go back to the paint store. Along the way he runs into trouble, and ends up in the hospital. This sets Barnabas off because he doesn’t like modern doctors poking into his business.
A/N: When I first wrote this, I thought it was a quite gentle story, since Willie kind of gets rescued, but really, it’s one of the meanest I’ve done.

***

Barnabas whipped him. Hard. With a switch. Told him to take down his trousers, bent him over the table, and whipped him for an offense that seemed so inconsequential when he’d done it, that by the time Barnabas let him up from the table to pull up his clothes, all thought of it had vanished from his head. The only thing that remained was the leftover taste of his heart sliding into his guts from Barnabas pouncing on him the moment the sun went down, and the slices of acid heat that now marched up and down his backside and legs. The cloth beneath his armpits and along his back was soaked with sweat, and a single hot track of it traced its way along the back of his ear, sliding down his neck to join its fellows. Heart thumping, pushing blood through new cuts and welts that his pants now pressed against, his fingertips pulsing with each shivery jerk of his lungs.

Watching the shadows lengthen across the field in back of the house as he stood at the sink stirring sugar in his coffee was rather akin to listening to the sound of a clock ticking his life away. Not that he was in any trouble, not of the serious variety.

The hour was unknown to him as he rolled over yet again, taking the blankets with him and leaving the pillow. It was almost too much effort to drag the thing under his head, but his body knew that if he did it, he would be asleep inside of a second. Just like it had known the last ten times. And of course, as he did it, he was more awake than ever. He wanted to sleep, maybe he was half asleep already, with the rustle of rain against his window, the soft slough of wind somewhere in the trees, the almost touch of warmth against his skin in the cool room.

It was a day filled with sleeping rain. Whenever he opened his eyes, it was raining, the room somehow warm for all that, and still. No rushing of wind through the cracks of the windowsill. No floating scent of salt from the sea.

Mid-morning came too early, the sky a color of grey that always made him want to go back to sleep. But the chores wouldn't wait, and didn't, and after the fire and ash, the candles and wax, towards mid-afternoon, he headed into town to try and find Wesley. Who would, surely, be nursing a hangover as big as the state of Maine. Especially after falling off the wagon so hard he would attack Willie in the street. He couldn't really blame Wesley, if Wesley truly thought Willie had told Laura about seeing him drinking at Butcher's garage. No, not really. He knew the kind of rage that too much beer could give rise to. When you felt dead-ended, with no way out.

Faith in the Atmosphere - Part 1 (A Dark Shadows Story)

Title: Faith in the Atmosphere
Author: Lovesrain44
Genre/Rating: Slash/R
Pairing: Willie/Barnabas
Word Count: 29,452
Fandom: Dark Shadows
Verse: Splinter Verse (#5)

Summary: Amidst the task of picking out paint for one of the rooms in the Old House, Willie encounters Wesley Dale, who has fallen off the wagon and gone back to drinking. Things get complicated as Barnabas encounters Wesley attacking Willie, and then, even worse, when Victoria witnesses the whole thing. It gets messier from there.

A/N: Willie can take it, I know that he can, but while I sometimes feel badly about treating him so horribly, I enjoy it too much to really apologize for it.

***

Willie bent over the counter, running his fingertip along the edge of the paint chip, leaving a streak that darkened the shade known as Heather Mist, and let his eyes wander over the array spread before him. After the counter guy had left him with as many shades of lilac as were available, he'd been completely ignored.

Title: State of Grace
Author: Lovesrain44
Genre/Rating: Slash/R
Pairing: Willie/Barnabas
Word Count: 29,985
Fandom: Dark Shadows
Verse: Splinter Verse (#4)
Summary: Willie attempts to do what he’s supposed to do, but it’s awfully hard, seeing as how delicious the rewards can be when he screws up. This is becoming more complicated, as is Willie’s newfound friendship with the tow truck guy, Wesley Dale. The gaming box continues to be a problem as well, and Wesley starts drinking again.
A/N: I honestly don’t know how Willie manages it, and I really should stop being so mean to him. Problem is, the more complicated I make it for him, the more fun it is for me!
