So I don't know how many people on my flist are going to Escapade....but I thought I'd list the panels I'll be moderating, and I also have a question for any Numb3rs fans out there.

This panel did not make the cut:

Supernatural: Who Really Is To Blame For the Apocalypse?
"He started it!" says Sam.
"He finished it, which means he really started it!" says Dean.

There's plenty of blame to go around for the Apocalypse now running rampant on Supernatural, but at its core, is there more blame that can be laid at one brother's feet to tip the balance? This is not going to be an abattoir; come with your ideas about fate and blame and messy guilt and we'll make a chart!

This panel did make the cut:

Supernatural:  The Good, the Bad, and Sam In between

"Sam has been walking a rocky road between being the baby of the family (sweet, bookish, innocent) and being Lucifer's preferred meatsuit. Dean once compared Sam to John and it wasn't a compliment. How do Sam's good qualities stack up against his bad qualities? Bring your ideas and let's take an hour to talk about Sam."

This panel also made the cut:

General (aka meta):Non-Con: Delicious, Yes, But Why? (comoderated with [livejournal.com profile] amothea and k'kathy)
"Some people adore non-con, other people won't touch it. Years ago there was a great panel about why we like non-con that dealt with guilt and fantasy and dealing with our inner squick buttons in order to enjoy the story. This time, let's talk about what makes a good non-con story. Is it structure? Is it content? Or is it about power vs powerlessness?"

This panel did not make the cut. I'm interested in finding out who suggested it, who's the Numb3rs fan, because I would like the opportunity to meet up with them and have a beer or two and chat about, well, everything!

Numb3rs:1 team. 5 cops. 3 academics. Infinite combinations
Don, Charlie, Larry, Alan, Colby, David, Amita, Megan, Liz, and a slew of sexy costars, plus a fandom that doesn't shy from incest. The possibilities are endless. What's your pick? What draws you in? What's out there, and what's not that should be?

The panals sound great. Where is Escapade being held?

They are fun, tons of fun. Escapade is this convention held on the beach in California, and I do mean on the beach. This is its 20th year. It's slash based, but there are gen and meta and tech panels, and everyone's cool with what each other is interested or not interested in.

Here's a link to hotel info. No lie, that's the view from every single room. They designed all the rooms to be facing the beach. : D

I'll send you the link to the main page:

http://escapadecon.net/

And then to the panel cut, which lists those panels that were suggested and then voted on to show enough interest:

And here's a link to all the panels that were suggested:

Man I'd like to know who suggested the Number panel too! I'd love to have beers with them as well. :) (or wine in my case) :)

Well, I'm poking around and when I find out, you will also find out, because of course! I'm just hoping it's not someone who is adverse to at least talking about Eppescest.

You'll have to give a con report- I'm not brave enough to go to Escapade.
Will they make a chart for the Sam panel, like they might have for the blame panel? We can see if people think Sam has any good qualities left- LOL.

It's INDECENT to make me laugh THAT hard so early in the morning!!!

Oh wait... it's so early I thought you said, "Will they make a chart for the Sam panel, and then, like, blame Sam for the panel?" And then my mind thought, well sure, Sam blames himself for everything else! And yes, I will have a chart, and will post the results.

You shouldn't be afraid! I think you'd have a blast. For one thing, it's the slash that is the whole deal here. Lots of pictures and art about nekked nudity. No hiding behind brown paper wrappers and that sort of thing.

Well, you know I do love my nekkid nudity. (evil grin) It's out of the picture for this year, but maybe next. I'm 99% sure this will be my last Mediawest, and I'm looking for a con to replace it. I'm 90% sure next year I'll be going to Revelcon, but I suppose I could be convinced to see Escapade.

Bascon is also supposed to be pretty good. That's held in...uh, California somewhere. The vid show is supposed to be Rocking.

http://www.bascon.org/

And Escapade is very relaxed with lots of good discussion. Since it's a slash con, mostly, you never have to explain or apologize or defend talking about slash because Slash is the whole point!

So why no more Media West? I think I got a little weary of the vid show being posted as suited the con people - you never knew exactly when it was, due to the fact that it was posted on the wall and never in the brochure, kind of like they even considered not showing it and then, oh well, we might as well. And THEN the vid selection was so dreary to begin with, and then, slash was shown only after 11 pm, etc....

Yeah, I'm more than a little weary of MW. Last year the flight from Florida was SUCH a horror, and then when I get to the con, there are fewer fen, fewer good panels, half the doors there used to be, and the vidshow was pathetic! I get a better vid show at Vidcon where only 50 people show up. And with the stupid room lottery and all, I said- why am I putting up with all this hassle for a diminished con? So I'm setting my sights elsewhere.

Thanks for the recs in that regard, although Bascon doesn't seem to have anything set for 2010 yet.
I do love the idea of an all slash con, so Escapade could be great for me.

I don't know what happened to Bascon this year, but the reports in the past years have always been positive, and they have a good vid show, like I said. But I really think MW is on its last legs. The first year I went I was impressed because it is a unique setting, and then after that, with the exception of one or two panels it was more of a march than a pleasure, on account of the con's attitude towards slash.

Have you heard about Vividcon? I always mixed it up with Vidcon, but Vividcon is where all the vidders go and its supposed to be a blast. I don't currently vid, so I never go, but I do like the results.
