I've got a long list of writing projects, and my only excuse for not working on any of them is that I had a houseguest for five days and she made me watch Battlestar Galactica for most of that. We had wine and steak and pizza and soda and ice cream and puff pastries (rasberry) and I SUFFERED through all of it.

OK, if we're going with the most probable I'd say during Season 2, after ELAC. Underage is rather unlikely. Kids may be kids, and yes, they were raised kind of isolated, but they both went to school and had enough possibilities to experiment there. Plus, there is the age gap. Four years is a lot in puberty. In Season 1 there was still some distance between them because Sam couldn't settle and wanted to leave again, so no. John's death threw them both off their feet and left them struggling, so I think if anything would have happened/started it would have been then. Born out of desperation, and then they just kept going.

I love underage because I'm whacked like that, but while I can see fooling around at a young age, I can't see it being anything with staying power. Like, if they had a circle jerk as teens, they would have forgotten it as soon as it was over and moved on. So yeah, I'm with you. John's death was a major catalyst!!

I'm having trouble with underage, which is kind of sad because it makes me miss out on quite a few fics. I don't mind them jerking off together as teens, but I can't read full-on sex unless Sam is at least sixteen. And even then I get uncomfortable when Dean does the topping, not because I like it better the other way around (which I do!), but because I still see a power imbalance at this age. Sigh. I'll have to keep missing out I guess.

I'm sure there's tons of fics that match your criteria; you might check specifically with SPN Storyfinders and put your call out. Or...imagine that the love Sam and Dean get from each other is the ONLY love they will ever truly have.
I once read Plutogirl10's "Into the Woods" and had no idea when I was reading it that Sam was 15...I just took it as regular wincest. So sometimes you can't tell....
